Privacy policy

The short version. Your recordings, transcripts, summaries and notes are stored only on your iPhone. To transcribe and summarize them, Acroa sends audio and text through our server to OpenAI and Anthropic. Our server does not keep that content, and those providers may not train on it. We keep your login, your hours balance and a record of hours used.

Acroa is an iPhone app made by Directive LLC (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what information Acroa handles, where it goes and what choices you have. It applies to the Acroa app and to this website.

What stays on your iPhone

Your recordings, transcripts, summaries, notes, edits and profile picture are stored only on your device. We do not have a copy and cannot see them. Audio is deleted from your device 14 days after it is transcribed, or right away if you set Profile → Keep audio to “Delete after transcript”. Text is kept until you delete it. A recording you delete waits in Recently Deleted for 30 days, then it is removed from your device for good.

Acroa does not sync your content to any cloud service. If your iPhone backs up to iCloud or a computer, your Acroa data may be included in that backup under Apple's terms.

What leaves your iPhone, and why

Transcription. To transcribe a recording, its audio is sent to our server and passed to OpenAI's Whisper speech-to-text service. Our server deletes the audio as soon as the transcript comes back and never stores the transcript.
Summaries. To write a summary, the transcript and your notes are sent to our server and passed to Anthropic's Claude model. The summary is returned to your device; our server does not keep it.
Ask Acroa. When you ask a question, Acroa searches your recordings on your iPhone and sends only your question and the matching excerpts to our server, which passes them to Claude to write the answer. Our server does not keep the question, the excerpts or the answer.
Names and terms. The names and terms you add in Profile → Transcription, and the language you choose, are sent with the audio so Whisper spells them correctly, along with the end of the previous part's transcript so long recordings read smoothly. They are not stored on our server.
Imports. For an imported video, only the sound is sent. Text you import or paste for summarizing is handled the same way as a transcript.

OpenAI and Anthropic process this data on our behalf under their API terms, which do not allow them to use it to train their models. They may keep API data for a limited time for abuse monitoring, as described in their own policies.

What our server keeps

We do not sell your information, show ads, or use third-party analytics or tracking in the app.

Purchases

Payments are handled by Apple. We never see your card details. Apple sends us the transaction details we need to credit your hours.

Deleting your data

In the app, go to Profile → Delete Acroa Data & Revoke Access and confirm. This deletes your Acroa data on your iPhone and on our server (your hours balance and purchase history), removes your access to Acroa, and signs this iPhone out of Acroa. Unused hours aren't refunded. Ledger entries are kept without your identity, for accounting.

Your Directive LLC login stays for other Directive LLC apps. Acroa never deletes data that belongs to them.

Deleting the app also deletes everything stored on your iPhone. You can also ask us to delete your data by emailing support@acroanotes.com.

Recording other people

You are responsible for telling people they are being recorded and getting their consent where the law requires it.

Children

Acroa is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete the personal information we hold, or to object to how we use it. Since your content stays on your device, the information we hold is limited to what is listed above. Email us to make a request.

This website

acroanotes.com does not use cookies or analytics. It is hosted by Cloudflare, which processes standard request data such as IP addresses to deliver and protect the site.

Changes

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top and, for significant changes, tell you in the app.
